Description (optional)
Different Earth system models utilize various dynamical cores (dycores), making it difficult to compare their performance and scientific outcomes in a consistent manner. Additionally, the GPU porting techniques employed by some dycores may lack portability across different platforms. In this work, we integrate the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) non-hydrostatic spectral element dynamical core into the Community Earth System Model (CESM). This dycore leverages the Kokkos library to achieve performance portability across both CPU and GPU hardware. We will present: 1) the performance comparison of different dycores within the same CESM framework, 2) the performance of the E3SM dycore at an ultra-high resolution on both CPU and GPU in CESM, and 3) the performance of the E3SM dycore on NVIDIA and AMD GPUs in our supercomputers. Moreover, we implement an automated continuous integration (CI) workflow during our code development. We will demonstrate how a CI workflow, with proper security control and through GitHub Actions on an internal on-premise cloud service, can ease our efforts about correctness verification, error detection and code robustness.Estimated # of Sessions/Classes (if applicable)
