CESM2 - Community Climate Intervention Strategies (CCIS) Ensemble

Dataset

Description

The Community Climate Intervention Strategies (CCIS) project has developed five possible climate interventions pathways that implement Re/afforestation, Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage, Direct Air Carbon Capture with Storage, and Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement, and Stratospheric Aerosol Injection against the SSP 2-4.5 baseline scenario. As part of the project, individual climate intervention scenarios have been developed to include feasibility constraints from literature and expert opinion, with each activity aiming to have forcing equivalent of removing around 5 GtCO2/year by 2050 and continuing to 2100. The interventions are applied individually and combined to evaluate their climate and carbon impacts, assessing differences in each method and possible interactions between methods. This level of cooling is chosen, as when combined, it represents the level of intervention required to achieve a Paris consistent 1.5C trajectory with an emission pathway consistent with current UNFCCC Nationally Determined Contributions. These simulations have been run as five member ensembles making up the Community Climate Intervention Strategies (CCIS) Ensemble.
