Personal profile
Research interests
Andy Wood (MSE, PhD) is an expert in streamflow forecasting, hydrologic modeling and applications, land monitoring and prediction (e.g., for flooding and droughts), water security assessments, water resources management and planning, and seasonal climate and hydrologic forecasting. His current research focus areas include improving operational hydrologic prediction at local to global scales, sub-seasonal to seasonal hydroclimate applications, hydroclimate impact assessment, and advancing the implementation of hydrology and land representations in Earth System Models.
Andy splits his time between the NCAR CGD Terrestrial Sciences Section, in Boulder, Colorado, where he is a project scientist, and the Colorado School of Mines, where he is a research professor in the Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has previously worked in the private sector (as lead scientist at 3Tier, Inc., focusing on renewable energy assessment and prediction), as research faculty at the U. of Washington, and for two NOAA River Forecast Centers (Colorado Basin and Northwest). He has chaired the Hydrology Committee of the American Meteoroligcal Society and co-chaired other inititiatives such as the international Hydrologic Ensemble Prediction Experiment (HEPEX).
