    Biography

    Dr. Brittany Welch is an Advanced Study Program Postdoctoral Researcher at the U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR), working within the Research Applications Laboratory (RAL). She specializes in microscale urban meteorology, turbulence modeling, using high-resolution Weather models. Dr. Welch’s work is also advancing or developing decision-making tools for road weather transportation operations. She investigates how high-resolution weather modeling can support drone navigation through localized weather hazards, evaluate micro-weather impacts on ground vehicles, and improve traffic management strategies during wildfire evacuations in Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) regions. She serves as Co-Chair of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Road Weather and Technology Committee and is a member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Road Winter Maintenance and Response to Weather Events
