Dr. Wilson’s work has focused on using UAS observations to observe mesoscale features and improve model forecasts, conducting Observing System Experiments (OSEs) and Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs), evaluating and improving model forecasts of aviation hazards such as deep convection and fog, examining interactions between severe storms and their mesoscale environments, and connecting polarimetric signatures of supercell thunderstorms to their environments and hazard production. He has extensive experience participating in field projects, including TORUS and TORUS-LItE, NRI-STORM, LAPSE-RATE, and SCALES. He also developed the Supercell Polarimetric Observation Research Kit (SPORK), an automated Python algorithm for detecting and quantifying polarimetric signatures in supercells.
