Personal profile
Dr. Patrick Hawbecker is a Project Scientist working at the intersection of atmospheric modeling, machine learning, and renewable energy research. His research focuses on boundary layer processes, large-eddy simulations, mesoscale-microscale coupling, and improving surface-layer parameterizations, especially in offshore and forested environments. Dr. Hawbecker has led and contributed to a range of high-impact projects, including wind and solar resource assessments, canopy turbulence modeling, and machine learning integration into the WRF model. He holds a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from NC State and brings a strong background in both research and applied meteorology, with prior experience at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and in the private sector.
