Paul Prestopnik is a Software Engineer III at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, CO, where he has worked since 2009. He is the Lead Engineer for the In-Flight Icing (IFI) Forecast and Diagnostic System, where he oversees engineering priorities, coordinates development workflows, and designs and develops scientific applications deployed across local and high-performance computing environments. He has also served as Lead Engineer for the Extreme Weather Forecasting (ExWx) system, which combines data from multiple weather models using fuzzy logic to predict extreme winds, temperatures, and icing conditions at wind farms across the country. Paul has supported international aviation weather efforts through the Advanced Operational Aviation Weather Systems (AOAWS) program for Taiwan, and has led data management efforts at RAL, including the development of a widely used archiving system with a web-based metadata query interface. Additional experience includes model post-processing, operational system monitoring, and coordinating data acquisition and access for internal and external collaborators.
