Peter A. Gilman received the Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is currently a Senior Scientist Emeritus at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. His research focuses on the fluid dynamics and magnetofluid dynamics of the sun, stars, and planets. He was Director of the NCAR High Altitude Observatory (1987–1989) and Associate Director of NCAR (1989–1995). He has served on numerous national and international committees and has authored or co-authored more than 175 publications in refereed journals. In 2006, he was awarded the Hale Prize, the highest honor of the Solar Physics Division of the American Astronomical Society. He was elected Fellow of the American Astronomical Society in 2020 and was elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2025.
