Personal profile

Peter A. Gilman received the Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is currently a Senior Scientist Emeritus at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. His research focuses on the fluid dynamics and magnetofluid dynamics of the sun, stars, and planets. He was Director of the NCAR High Altitude Observatory (1987–1989) and Associate Director of NCAR (1989–1995). He has served on numerous national and international committees, and has authored or co-authored more than 170 publications in refereed journals. In 2006, he was awarded the Hale Prize, the highest honor of the Solar Physics Division of the American Astronomical Society. In 2020, Peter was elected a Legacy Fellow of the American Astronomical Society (AAS), following the AAS establishing its Fellows honor.
