For outstanding achievements of the Asian Summer Monsoon Chemical & CLimate Impact Project (ACCLIP)
Description of Work
The ACCLIP campaign was the first international campaign for NSF NCAR after reopening from COVID and represents a significant scientific and technical achievement in its sampling of the Asian summer monsoon’s (ASM) role in global atmospheric composition. The campaign consisted of two research aircraft, including the NSF NCAR Gulfstream V, which comprehensively sampled the chemical and aerosol properties of the ASM over the western Pacific. ACCLIP airborne sampling provides evidence of the injection of short-lived ozone-depleting substances into the upper-troposphere and lower stratosphere by ASM convection. The campaign involved considerable international collaboration. The dedication and accomplishments of the team are more impressive still when considering the campaign field phase took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically during a time when testing and quarantine restrictions were in place in the Republic of Korea.
