Description of Work

George has capably supported the FAA-sponsored High Ice Water Content (HIWC) project as a software engineer for many years. A few years ago, he set-up the original webpage to display our prototype HIWC product to potential users, but the website has not been actively used for quite some time. This year our product is undergoing assessment by the FAA Aviation Weather Demonstration and Evaluation (AWDE) team and a cohort of users recruited by them, so we needed to dust off the webpage.

In preparation for this assessment, we asked George to review the site and verify its reliability. During his review, he and the team defined a collection of new features that would be "nice to have" for the AWDE assessment. Time was short, though, so we limited George's assigned tasks to a small set of the most important features.

As it turned out, George exceeded all of our expectations, completing everything on the list and more. After consulting with other RAL SE's, he developed a completely new webpage which is far more sophisticated than the original one. As the scientists enthusiastically tested it, a long list of requests was added to George's plate. Although the web design environment was new to him, he managed to address every one of our requests. The FAA team also reviewed the webpage and provided feedback related to human factors. George was able to address all of the issues they raised as well. As a result, we have far more capable web display that will cast our product in the best light for the upcoming assessment.
