A global version of MM5: Method and verification

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

The initial verification and performance of the global version of the MM5 model developed for global forecasts, were presented. The model was verified in regard with predicting the 500 hPa height field. The statistical verification methods used include correlation, root mean square (RMS) error and bias. The performance statistics of the model for North America and for the Northern hemisphere in terms of correlation, RMS error and bias, were also presented. The performance statistics show the model's ability to produce skill at five-day forecast with little significant drift.
