Abstract
The verification of the performance of a global version of the MM5 model that show its level of skill with regard to predicting the 500 hPa height field is discussed. The grid size is about 120 km, which varies from 128 km at the pole to 64 km at the equator in physical space. The forecasts of 500 hPa are verified against the analysis that are used to initialize the forecasts. The results show that the global model tends to have its highest bias in the region north of 80 degrees, with a slight negative bias at low latitudes and a positive bias at high latitudes.
