A stratified diagnosis of the Indian monsoon - Eurasian snow cover relationship

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

The association between Indian monsoon intensity and Eurasian snow cover is discussed using satellite retrievals from 1967 to 2001. The spatial and temporal complexity in the Eurasian snow cover distribution, and the role of ENSO in modulating the snow cover-All Indian rainfall (AIR) relationship are also discussed. The spatial distribution of the rainfall association within India has also been focused. The association between ENSO and snow cover is found to be strong across much of Eurasia which suggests a strong influence of ENSO on the monsoon snow-cover relationship over the climatological record.
