Abstract

One of the main problematic related the Italian wind power production concerns with the grid overload during period of intense winds on some area of the south regions. Because of that it often happens that TERNA (the Italian TSO) imposes to the producers to switch off their wind farms to fulfil all the safety requirements of the distribution network. As a consequence, the legislation has regulated the computation of the reimbursement for the producers due to the missed energy production. The amount of money will be computed by a simple algorithm based on wind speed measurements of an independent sensors network installed by GSE (Gestore Servizi Energetici) whose height above the ground should be between 10 m to 30 m. As a consequence it becomes important defining the error occurring on the energy estimation by the wind extrapolation at higher altitudes.
