Abstract
The paper focuses on the data characteristics collected by the Airforce weather radars which have been recently upgraded into dual-polarimetric Doppler weather radar. The attenuation correction shows that the ZPHI method, which is one of the two schemes for the attenuation correction introduced in the study, make a higher correction of reflectivity than the single coefficient method. The present study also analyzes the hailfall event occurring over the Penghu Island in 2009. The signal of rain-hail mixing is captured by the detection of the dual-polarimetric parameter. Besides, the retrieval wind by synthesizing the Doppler velocity of Makung radar and CWB Chigu Radar is reasonable, which reveals that the dual-Doppler observation constructed by both radars is beneficial for investigating the dynamic process of the mesoscale convection embedded with the southwesterly flow during the effect of typhoon Morakot (2009).
