Abstract

An objective analysis was carried out to find out the existence of weather holes. A method for constructing local climatographies of convective echoes using readily available datasets from the WST-88D network was demonstrated. Statistics and plots of radar data over several square arrays, centered on the centerpoint of each target city, that represented familiar geopolitical entities were also presented. The studies suggested that many meteorological communities reputed to be convective weather holes were not much different from other places. It was also suggested that holes and hot spots were not more frequent among the meteorological targets than they were among the random targets.
