Abstract

A mesoscale, real-time four dimensional data assimilation and short-term forecasting system (RTFDDA) is developed for forecasting of snowbands in the airport terminal area. A radar data assimilation scheme based on nudging analysis is added to RTFDDA for assimilating data from multiple radars. The system is designed to run efficiently in real-time. The winter storm studies of the system show its skillfulness in predicting the storm's occurrance.
