Abstract

Assimilation of radar data for snowstorm forecasting was investigated using the real-time four-dimensional data assimilation and short-term forecasting system (RTFDDA). A series of assimilation and forecasting experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of RTFDDA and the impact of radar data assimilation. Data ingest modules were developed to make use of the CIWS mosaic reflectivity datasets. The RTFDDA system provides a framwework for real-time operations for 1.12 h snowband forecast.
