Abstract

This publication provides an extensive set of charts of mean monthly wave heights and wind speeds based on data from the GEOSAT satellite mission. It includes an introduction to global meteorology and the processes responsible for the generation of ocean waves, and more in-depth information relating to the GEOSAT mission, to data preparation and validation, and to wind and wave statistics for the main ocean basins. The underlying satellite data has been processed by the authors to offer a database available in the CD-ROM of the atlas (ISBN 0 08 042434 1, reviewed separately). -from Publishers
