Abstract
The rawinsonde observations and model soundings were compared to improve aircraft icing forecasts. The observations allowed verification throughout the depth of the atmosphere and at points across the model domain. The icing products used temperature (T) and relative humidity (RH) forecasts to create a vertical profile of the atmosphere that can be compared to observed profiles from balloon-borne soundings. The results show that the differences in RH are smaller at warmer temperatures where icing is most common and grew larger with decreasing temperature.
