Abstract

Sea surges from tropical cyclones pose a major potential hazard for many of our port and harbour infrastructures. We describe the mechanisms that produce a storm surge, present an overview of the methods used to analyze and predict surge in the Bureau of Meteorology, and briefly discuss the surge hazard at Port Hedland.
