Abstract

Raindrops shape data acquired on May 28 and June 8, 1983 under convective rainfall conditions is described. The relationship between mean axis ratio and raindrop size, as well as the extent of drop oscillations. The data was obtained under convective rainfall conditions in Colorado where the raindrops resulted primarily from the melting of graupel. The accuracy with which axis ratios can be determined from the images by using a computer simulation is discussed.
