Abstract
The performances of several commonly used shortwave and longwave codes in atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM) radiation parameterizations in the Arctic were evaluated. Data collected during the Surface Heat Budget of the Arctic (SHEBA) field experiment were used in the evaluation. Various aspects of the AGCM model, including the radiative transfer scheme, the surface albedo characterization and the parameterized cloud and aerosol optical properties were also studied. It was observed that surface albedo showed more variations in downwelling flux at the surface. The sensitivity of the models with water vapor was also analyzed.
