Abstract

Subjective evaluations of integrated turbulence forecast algorithm (ITFA) that were completed by Aviation Weather Center (AWC) through online questionnaire are reported. The results provide a great deal of information about the important sources of turbulence and the performance of ITFA. The results show that most of the turbulence as characterized by the forecasters is caused by jet streams. It is suggested that ITFA does not perform well when the forecast areas are too large and the altitudes are too broad or too specific.
