Abstract

Multiparameter radar measurements, in situ observations, and a precipitation growth model were used to study hail production within a Colorado hail storm. A coherent pattern of hail growth, deposition, and radar signatures for hail was found. Also, the results are used to examine the role played by the differential reflectivity (ZDR) column, often seen extending above the freezing level in convective storms in hail production.
