Abstract
The primary goal of the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) is to determine the climatology of tropical precipitation. During the Maritime Continent Thunderstorm Experiment, the first polarimetric radar observations of tropical convection were obtained. The radar observations were supplemented with surface disdrometer and rain gauge data. The obtained data were used to test known polarimetric radar methods for differentiating hydrometeor types and estimating their amounts.
