Abstract

Institutions can be conceptualized as "regulative, normative and cultural-cognitive elements that, together with associated activities and resources, provide stability and meaning to social life" [14]. These regulative, normative, and cultural-cognitive elements provide the institutional structures in which organizations or individuals are embedded. By providing particular courses of action, institutions serve as patterns that constrain and empower individuals.
