N2 - Satellite meteorology tutorials are being produced in advance of the launch of the NPOESS and NPP satellites. These tutorials, published via the World Wide Web at no cost to the user, address new enhanced products that will become available in the NPOESS era, as well as existing polar orbiting capabilities. Multimedia technology delivers graphics, animations, and voice narration, facilitating learning. Links to operational products, which can be updated as needed, are provided to encourage students to practice the skills they have learned. Upcoming modules will include training on the following: passive microwave radiometry basics, microwave products describing the hydrologic cycle in atmosphere, polar satellite techniques for the forecasting of weather hazards, familiarization with the European Meteorological Operational (METOP) satellite, and potential forecaster benefits from next-generation sounders.
