Abstract
A study of real-time analysis and short-term forecasting of snowbands using a mesoscale model is presented. The main objective is to develop a real-time short-term forecasting system for airport applications during the winter storms. The RTFDDA system that NCAR developed for Army test Ranges was tested for short-term forecast of snowfall. Data ingest modules were developed to make use of the CIWS mosaic reflectivity datasets. It is stated that the prediction of snowbands, the correct modeling of vertical motion is crucial.
