Abstract
Working group 1 considered non-stationary processes. Our discussion was focussed upon observable signatures of chromospheric and coronal heating mechanisms in the quiet Sun. Several areas were identified where new observations involving SoHO instruments might be used to address existing problems. With a few exceptions, the posters in this section could be arranged into three broad areas: observational signatures of the dynamics of the chromosphere coupled to the photosphere and lower transition region, observed properties of the corona, and theoretical work on coronal heating mechanisms. We raised many more questions than we answered. This was not unexpected. We identified a particular need to analyze existing data, and acquire new data, that be used to examine the response of chromospheric and coronal plasmas to the photospheric drivers. This report is deliberately brief, in the hope that it might be more appealing to read.
