Retrieval of thermodynamic fields with the adjoint method and comparison with the traditional technique of Gal-Chen and Hane

    Abstract

    In this study, an attempt is made to compare the performance of the traditional technique and the adjoint method in thermodynamic retrieval using simulated data of a collapsing cold pool. These tests indicated that the adjoint method is less sensitive to data frequency and random error than the traditional technique.
