Abstract

We report on a study of charged and neutral K^* production in tau decay. We obtain a branching ratio value BR(τ^-→K^*-ν_τX⁰) = (1.43±0.11±0.13)% where X⁰ designates possible unobserved neutral particles (charge conjugate modes are implicit). We observe the first signals for inclusive K^*0 and K̄^*0 production in τ^- decay, and determine the inclusive branching ratios τ^-→K^*0K^-ν_τX⁰ and τ^- K ̄^*0π^-ν_τX⁰ to be (0.32±0.08±0.12)% and (0.38±0.11±0.13)%, respectively. We have searched for the decay τ^-→K⁰K^-ν_τX⁰ and set a limit of 8 × 10^-3 at 90% confidence level.
