Abstract
Ultimately global climatology and variability of the net surface heat flux, Q, will rely heavily on satellites. One approach is to estimate the various components, separately then add them together. Because the components have different signs, the magnitude of the annual Q, as estimated from bulk parameterizations of each of its four components, over most of the world's oceans is less than 40 W/m2 and is thus usually less than the cumulative uncertainty in estimating it. -from Authors
