Abstract

The use of nonlocal boundary layer vertical diffusion scheme in numerical weather prediction applications is evaluated. The scheme is evaluated using MRF model. The scheme has shown the major benefit of a realistic evolution of the mixed layer height. The schemes is able to outperform the MRF pbl scheme for selected cases of severe weather. The scheme is capable of resolving meso-highs and the gust front very well for a localized convection over US.
