Abstract

The diurnal cycle of rainfall frequency in simulations by the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model across united States is analyzed. The diurnal cycle results of rainfall inferred observed from the WSR-88D network are compared with results from WRF model. The diurnal cycle of rainfall frequency is quantified through fourier analysis. The difference between the simulations and observations shows that the WRF model exaggerated lower-tropospheric convergence in response to solar heating. It is observed from the phases in the observed and simulations that diurnal rainfalls are frequent in the afternoon and early evenings in the states bordering the Atlantic Ocean and in the western third of the motion.
