Abstract

In the past decade, there has been an increase in the presence of Chinese-American (CA) scientists in the field of atmospheric, oceanic and Earth-related sciences. Representing 9% of the total doctoral recipients, CA's works can be found in journals of geophysics and Earth sciences. The observed increase in Chinese presence was surveyed by the Chinese-American Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (COAA) and published by the AMS and American Geophysical Union (AGU). The criteria for the observation is that the author had to be of Chinese descent if he either had Chinese lineage or was from mainland China, Hong Kong or Taiwan. In addition, there are also Chinese scientists that have an interest in subdisciplines in meteorology and oceanic science fields.
