    Abstract

This work shows that the character of the wave pattern depends on the surface Richardson number. A large number of modes are excited in very case and the analysis breaks down for the higher modes. To determine wave amplitudes then, recourse had to be made to numerical simulations were carried out for different values of the Richardson number and the results support the analysis.
