Abstract

The skill exhibited by numerical weather prediction models, as well as human forecasters is lower over the Intermountain West than other regions of the United States. This paper discusses the Intermountain Precipitation Experiment (IPEX) initiated to address this challenge by improving the understanding, analysis, and prediction of precipitation and precipitation processes over the complex topography of the Intermountain West.
