Abstract
The UV absorption cross sections for BrOCl in the gas phase have been measured over the wavelength range 230-390nm. Absorption measurements were made at 298K using a 100cm long absorption cell and a diode array spectrometer. BrOCl was generated in the gas phase by exposing a BrCl/Cl2/Br2 gas mixture to solid HgO. The BrOCl absorption spectrum showed peaks at 272 (2.00×10-18cm2 per molecule) and 320nm (0.574×10-18cm2 per molecule). Absorption cross sections were determined by mass balance following the decomposition of the gas mixture.
