Abstract
UCAR universities were surveyed to determine the factors leading to the decline of students applying for Ph.D programs. The survey revealed that applications declined significantly between 1995/96 and the 1999/2000 school years. Data obtained indicate that whatever the reason for the decline, the community should seek ways to increase the number of qualified applicants.
