    Abstract

Many writing aids exist today for the handicapped. However, most of these aids do not address the critically important areas of speed, correctability, and mobility. The rapid advances in electronic technology over the last several years and foreseeable in the near future, combined with a thorough knowledge of needs of the handicapped can make possible the development of the first aids that effectively address all the problems of writing faced by the handicapped population. This chapter points out the handicapped person's many writing difficulties and discusses how they may be solved. Subjects covered include defining the needs to be met by writing systems, efective writing aid features, approaches for implementing writing aids, and others. Refs.
